Tuesday Night Sailing Series (May 13th to June 10th)

First Race — May 13, 2008 (Warning signal 1800 [6:00 PM])

Let’s Go Sailing — We’ve planned a weekly evening series of “fun and informal” racing on the Ware River for WRYC and other local small boat sailors. New sailors can learn to sail their boats well and the experienced sailors can hone their racing skills.

Race Series Information

Eligibility-Any sailor that wishes to sail. Non-Club members are encouraged to sail and are welcomed. Participants will be allowed to park their trailered boats on the Club property during the series. A Club boat storage agreement and Series registration must be completed prior to use of the Club grounds. You may get both forms on the first Tues. evening of the Series.

Junior sailors are welcome and will need their parent’s written permission. Juniors 14 and under will require on-site parental supervision during the series.

Club Boats – Use of Club boats by CLUB MEMBERS is encouraged and will signed out on a first come first served basis.

Schedule – Tuesday evenings May 13th, May 20th, May 27th, June 3rd and June 10th.

Starts – First warning – 1600 – Using Sound-Signal Starting System (RRS Appendix Q). We may use RRS 26 (Flags and Sound) if there is an experienced fleet. One design classes of 4 boats or more will have separate starts. Fewer than 4 class boats will have a combined start with other classes.

Courses – Windward – Leeward in configuration. Number of legs will be announced on the water. Estimated time for each race will be no more than 1 hour. At least one race each evening will be conducted. Additional races will conducted if time will allow. No race will start after 1915.

Registration – Fill out the attached form and mail it to Rick Klein (5533 Roanes Wharf Landing, Gloucester, VA 23061) or bring it with you on the first Tuesday evening. You are asked to “donate” some $ to offset the cost of the after-race refreshments. No other fees for this Series.

Race Committee – We’ll need at least one volunteer to be the Race Committee each evening. It may be necessary for series participants to share the RC duties. If this is the case, the Series participant doing RC for that evening will receive a 1st place in the scoring (if we score this Series).
