2009 District 11 Series Announced

The 2009 Laser District 11 Series events have been announced. The series will consist of 6 events at different clubs in District 11. They will be:

3/21-3/22 Capital City Regatta – Potomac River Sailing Association
7/25-7/26 Corsica River Yacht Club Annual Regatta
8/8-8/9 Annual Oxford Regatta – Tred Avon Yacht Club
8/15-8/16 Deep Creek Laser Invitational – Deep Creek YC
9/12-9/13 District 11 Championship – West River SC
9/20-9/21 Crab Claw Regatta – Severn Sailing Association

Any ICLA member who attends 3 or more events will be qualified to be scored in the series. Women, Radial & Junior sailors qualify by attending one event less than half of the events which had fleets for the respective groups. There will be awards for 1-3 overall, 1st Radial, 1st Junior, 1st Woman and the best finishing sailor who travels to the most events.

Scoring will be based on a high point scoring system where a point is awarded for each boat a sailor finishes ahead of.  Best 3 events count for scoring purposes.

Oxford regatta this weekend

Next up this weekend is the Oxford Regatta at Tred Avon YC.

The Oxford regatta has always been one of the premier events on the Eastern Shore, averaging between 20 and 40 lasers for at least the past 15 years. The TAYC race committee is top-notch, the après-sail/party/band can easily claim a few victims, and the competition is always very, very good. Lasers usually get back to shore in time to watch the Log Canoes get in their last race. For people who aren’t familiar, that sight generally produces head-tilting awe, especially if there is wind. Oxford is easily the best spectator event east of the big bridge.

Get the laser off the rack, make reservations at a B&B, and roll! Parking is in limited supply – get there early (like 8am early).
