2012 District 11 Championship at SSA in September

50 Years of One Design ExcellenceSevern Sailing Association will be the host of the 2012 District 11 Championship on September 22-23.  SSA is undergoing a major renovation to their clubhouse and this will be an excellent opportunity for Laser sailors to check out the new digs!

The 11th District of the International Laser Class Association North American Region covers Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and West Virginia.  With 12 fleets around the Chesapeake Bay and Deep Creek Lake, hundreds of sailors race Lasers each year.  40+ laser regattas are held annually in the district in addition to dozens of other race days including weeknight racing and winter frostbite sailing.  Each year District 11 sponsors a championship regatta for both Standard and Radial rig fleets to crown their champion and award 20 points in the ILCA-NA Grand Prix Series.  http://laserdistrict11.org

SSA’s Crab Claw Regatta NOR

The Crab Claw, hosted by Severn Sailing Association and Laser Fleet 10 in Annapolis, MD. is one of the best Fall Laser regattas on the east coast. Full rigs and Radials are welcome and a separate start will be provided for the Radials.

This popular regatta has a few new wrinkles this year which will make it even more fun.  We will be starting racing on Sunday at 10 am instead of 11 a.m. and no race will start after 1400 instead of 1500. This will give our out of town guests a little more time to get on the road and back home.

Dinner will again be a traditional Chesapeake Bay crab feast. This year, back by popular request will be a masseuse and a live band on Saturday evening to give massages to and entertain tired and sore sailors.

Finally, we have limited housing available with fleet members. Check the box on the entry form if you are interested.

SSA Crab Claw Regatta

The school buses are running through the neighborhood again, and we even saw some cooler temperatures the end of last week, sot it certainly looks like the summer is coming to an end, and that can mean only one thing, Laser sailing at SSA in the Annual Crab Claw Regatta is on for September 25-26. The Notice of Race (NOR) is available online and in addition, you can register for the regatta now at http://ssa.sailregattas.com/

New for 2010, we will have a Laser Radial fleet with separate start and trophies, so we encourage all those Radial sailors, juniors included to register and join us at a really fun regatta. All competitors are invited to a traditional Maryland crab feast on Saturday evening at SSA, hopefully with live musical entertainment as well. We will have custom trophies, thanks to Sculptures by Claire, for 1st through 3rd place for both Standard and Radial as well as first master and first woman in both Standard and Radial classes.

Go to http://ssa.sailregattas.com and register early for this fantastic annual event, and save $10 for early registration.
