2009 District 11 Series Results

Results are in from the 2009 District 11 Series.  Congratulations to Bob Tan (SSA) who won the Standard Rig and Josh Dragon (BCSC) who won the Radials.  Samuel Dobbs wins the road warrier trophy by attending all 6 events by sailing one rig or another.

For the standard rig we had 98 sailors take part in at least one of the 6 series events.  That’s a 15-boat increase over last year.  We had 8 sailors qualify for scoring (5 last year). Karen Long (SSA) was first woman.

In the Radial fleet we had 34 sailors attend at least one event.  That’s over twice as many as we had the year prior (14).

2009 District 11 Series Announced

The 2009 Laser District 11 Series events have been announced. The series will consist of 6 events at different clubs in District 11. They will be:

3/21-3/22 Capital City Regatta – Potomac River Sailing Association
7/25-7/26 Corsica River Yacht Club Annual Regatta
8/8-8/9 Annual Oxford Regatta – Tred Avon Yacht Club
8/15-8/16 Deep Creek Laser Invitational – Deep Creek YC
9/12-9/13 District 11 Championship – West River SC
9/20-9/21 Crab Claw Regatta – Severn Sailing Association

Any ICLA member who attends 3 or more events will be qualified to be scored in the series. Women, Radial & Junior sailors qualify by attending one event less than half of the events which had fleets for the respective groups. There will be awards for 1-3 overall, 1st Radial, 1st Junior, 1st Woman and the best finishing sailor who travels to the most events.

Scoring will be based on a high point scoring system where a point is awarded for each boat a sailor finishes ahead of.  Best 3 events count for scoring purposes.

2008 District Series Standings

The 2008 District Series concluded in October with 83 sailors taking part in at least one of the events.  Five sailors attended 3 or more events to qualify for the series.  Sailors attending more than 3 events kept their scores from their best 3 events.  Jon Deutsch (FBYC) attended 5 out of 6 of the events to win the series by two points over Brennen Drysdale (MRYC).  Greg Herbert (SSA) was another 4 points behind.  Dorian Haldeman (SSA) and Jerry Smith round out the other two qualifiers.

2008 District 11 Series Announced

2007 District Series Champion

Congratulations to our overall winner Jon Deutsch from Fishing Bay Yacht Club. Liz Hancock of Magothy River Sailing Association finished 2nd overall and Dorian Haldeman of Severn Sailing Association was 3rd. Liz was also awarded first woman and first master.

The series consisted of 6 events throughout the district with some being two-day and a few being single-day events. To be eligible for series trophies, sailors needed to attend 3 of the events and this was accomplished by 8 sailors. 106 sailors participated in at least one event. Quinn Tobin was the most traveled sailor attending more events in the series than any other sailor. Finishing 4-8 was Ellen Thomas, Quinn Tobin, Trevor Prior and Jerry Smith.

2007 District Series

The 2007 Laser District 11 Series is now set. The series will consist of 6 events of which sailors must attend 3 events to qualify to be in the running for series awards. In addition to the overall 1-3 and 1st master awards, there will be an award for 1st Radial, 1st Junior and 1st Woman.

Scoring will be based on a high point scoring system where a point is awarded for each boat a sailor finishes ahead of. Scoring will be by regatta only on sailors qualified for the series. Awards are open to any laser class members who qualify.

District 11 Circuit # 3/Rock Hall YC

June 17- 18 lasers made a great showing among several one design fleets,despite 2 competing regattas in Western Maryland and New Jersey.

Next series circuit stop- #4 West River Sailing Club, Labor Day weekend and #5 Fishing Bay YC, September 9-10 Several division trophies and recognition trophy awards. Help keep the series going and make D11 as great as Texas/D15. Talk it up and bring a laser friend along.

Capital City Regatta!

It’s the first in District 11 circuit series regattas-This weekend, Sat. and Sun.

Located on the Potomac River near the nation’s capital, PRSA folks have a great event planned for you.
