ILCA-NA Annouces 2011 Grand Prix

The International Laser Class Association North American Region has announced the 2011 Grand Prix series.  Sailors can accumulate points at the major Standard, Radial, and 4.7 events in North America.  The points are used to award prizes and in the awarding of berths to World Championships in the following year.

Our own District 11 Championship at Fishing Bay Yacht Club on May 14-15 is worth 20 points.

The following prizes will be awarded once the series concludes:

  • 1st – new Laser or Radial or Laser 4.7 folded sail
  • 2nd – complete Laser rudder
  • 3rd – “Upgrade” package with the Laser block package and new D/B friction pad
  • Ironman to the participant in the most events – Laser block package

The intent of the North American Grand Prix is to promote participation in Laser Class events at the District, Regional and Continental levels. Except where explicitly stated, the following rules apply equally to the 2011 Laser, Radial, and Laser 4.7 Grand Prix.

Update on Grand Prix Points

The International Laser Class Association North American Region has posted the latest standings for the Grand Prix series.  Grand Prix points are given for attending many of the top events around the country including our own District 11 Championship and are weighted by magnitude of the event.  Several District 11 sailors have made it into the top 150 in the Standard and Radial lists.

Standard Rig

  • 32 Kyle Swenson (FBYC) with 46 points (7 US Nationals, 1st D8 Champs, 2nd D11 Champs)
  • 104 Scott Houck (AYC) with 20 points (1st D11 Champs)
  • 125 Matthew Schofield (SSA/AYC) with 18 points (3rd D11 Champs)
  • 149 Jon Deutsch (FBYC) with 16 points (10th D11 Champs, 16th D10 Champs)

Radial Rig
